I bought Todd Lammle's CCNA Study Guide and got my hands on 2 Cisco 2500 series routers.

It seems to be a very decent book and practicing on actual hardware is helping me really understand the topics covered in his book. I'd really like to purchase a better router to practice on but they can be expensive.

Here is a link to the book on amazon:

Check out or ebay for old routers so that you can build your own practice lab.

I hear that the ICND1 and ICND2 study guides by Cisco Press are good also but I haven't purchased them.

I second the Todd Lammle book, its got everything you need to bring your skills current for taking the exam. It goes over subnetting at length and everything else is covered.

Maybe I'm weird, but I like the Cisco Press (Odom) books. Lammle books are okay but - to me - the Odom books are more in-depth.

And I - highly - recommend 2 routers and a switch. Nothing beats hands-on.

Good luck!
