CCIE SP or R&S

Unanswered Question

Hi Guys!

I have completed my CCIP and have some hands on on MPLS L3/L2 VPNs ATM etc. I have decided to pursue CCIE and I would love to do it in SP. That is my goal. But many of my friends ae of the opinion that it is better to do CCIE R&S as it is the core and maybe later do SP as a second certification. Wanted to get some views of people here.

Thanks in advances for the help.

Cheers!

I have this problem too.

I personally chose R&S first, as it theoretically has wider applicability. Having said that, to most people, a CCIE is a CCIE. So if you look at the R&S blueprint and there's just too much stuff that you have no interest in or application for in your day-to-day career, then go straight for SP. Either way, there's some overlap. I find that already having completed R&S allows me to more narrowly focust my SP studies on the non-overlapping stuff such as MPLS (lot more to learn that I would have guessed).

But again, CCIE is CCIE to 99%+ of the world's population, so go for what you want to do most.
