LWAPP Conversion Error

Scott Pickles

I am converting an 1131AG autonomous to LWAPP using the conversion tool v3.2. The conversion fails when checking input variables, specifically the text file containing the IP address, telnet username, telnet password, and enable password. I can't believe I'm doing something wrong, as I've read the doc on how to prepare this file and it's just a TXT file with comma separated values. As an example, I tried:

192.168.1.1,scott,password,password and saved it as "IP File.txt"

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this information?

Regards,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Seems fine. Were you sure to enable Telnet connections to the WLC?

***Configuring the controller to accept telnet connections

Synchronizing the controller time with the machine that hosts the upgrade tool

The IP File field is the input file of access points to upgrade. Whether you have one or several access points to upgrade, create a flat text file in the following format:

ap-ip-address,telnet-username,telnet-user-password,enable-password

ap-ip-address,telnet-username,telnet-user-password,enable-password

Each line in the text file lists the unit IP address, Telnet username and password, and a password that permits access to the access point CLI privileged EXEC mode. Use a comma to separate each item on a line. Save the text file on the same machine that hosts the upgrade tool. Click the . . . button to browse to and select the text file.

Thanks for the posts guys. Rob - your post would indicate I need to be on the network that can reach the WLC. I'm doing the conversion on my laptop which is not connected to the WLC. I thought the conversion could happen independently of the WLC and then be added. The error I get from the tool is a box that displays the contents of my IP File and tells me to verify their settings and re-try.

Thanks,

Scott

Make sure you have http enabled on the ap... and that the username abd password is correct.

That is enabled by default, but I'll double check. What information do I put in for IP address if it is assigned by DHCP? The current IP?

I meant telenet enabled.... Have you looed at the read me file:

List of Prerequisites before running Upgrade Tool 3.2

1) The Upgrade tool operates only on a PC with the Windows 2000/XP

work station operating system.

2) The Upgrade tool operates only with Cisco Aironet 1100, 1130, 1200,

1240, 1250, 1310(AP mode only) series access points and C3201 WMIC

running Cisco IOS Release 12.3(7)JA software or greater.

3) The person installing and running the Upgrade tool must be

logged in and must be the administrator of the PC.

4) If the Upgrade tool is used on WAN link then link speed should be greater

than or equal to 128 Kbps.

5) The Upgrade tool requires a valid IP file containing IP address,

Username, Password and enable Password separated by a comma, for

each access point to be upgraded.

Note: Have a check that no multiple entries for same AP are mentioned.

6) Presence of Fire-wall may result in download of image failure. So, have

a check of Fire-wall presence and its configuration.

7) All the access-points and Controller must have telnet service enabled.

8) Make a check whether the system time is configured properly.

Post a screen capture of the error if possible.

Hi Scott,

Usually the conversion is done with access to the WLC and the current IP address for the AP.

Hope this helps!

Rob
