Need your expert advice here. I am trying to connect quite a few 7960G phones to a non-cisco 802.3af compliance POE switch. The phone didn't power up I guess it's due to the fact it is a Cisco pre-standard POE phone. Is there any workaround to resolve this issue? Will the "Catalyst Inline Power Patch Panel" do any good for me? Please advise.

Hi Ted,
You are most correct :) Here is another (Cisco Partner) be sure to look at the secondary splitter required for the 7960 pre-standard PoE.
PowerDsine 6000 Power over Ethernet Midspan Family

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the info. That was really helpful. And just want to make sure I am clear on this. If the access switch can supply 802.3af POE, I can just use the PD-PS-401/Cisco POE splitter, one RJ45 to the the POE switch, and the other RJ45 along with the AC plug to the 7960G phone?
Thanks for your help again. -Ted

Hi Ted,
Yes, this product will enable you to use the 7960 with your 802.3af switch. I don't beleive it needs AC either (the picture doesn't portray this well). I have not used this splitter so you may want to test one out first (they are pretty cheap (look on Google))
My understanding is that they work well :)
