Switches for BCMSN Exam

Unanswered Question

Hi All,

Just wondering what you could recommend for switches for the BCMSN exam? I've looked at the cisco suggested lab, but I was hoping to find the 'lowest cost' switches possible, that would cover most of what I need to learn...

Barring that any suggested rack rentals for this endavour?

Thanks,

Hi Brad,

The lowest cost switches that would be enough for the preparation for BCMSN exam may be the following, in my opinion:

Catalyst 3560-8PC:

8 Ethernet 10/100 ports with PoE and 1 dual purpose 10/100/1000 and small form-factor pluggable (SFP) port; compact form-factor with no fan

2960-8TC-L:

8 Ethernet 10/100 ports and 1 dual-purpose uplink

Cheers.

you can probably find a 24 port 3550 on ebay for much cheaper than you will find the 8 port 3560's. Those would be just as good.

You would probably want to procure a full switch block. Getting 2- 3550 switches with the EMI image should be good for your layer 3 switches. A couple of 2950s would probably work well for your access level switches.
