hello I have 2 routers connected to each other with a back to back cable and using ospf routing. My question is why I am only receiving and not sending hellos when I run the command debug ip ospf hello.

output RouterB#debug ip ospf hello

OSPF hello events debugging is on

RouterB#

OSPF uses multicast to send hellos and routing updates. The router that's not sending hellos may be broadcast/multicast isn't supported on the Serial interface. Are you doing back-to-back frame relay. Can you post the configuration?

Andrea

I agree with Sundar that we need to verify that broadcast/multicast are enabled on that interface. I believe that you could also produce these symptoms if the interface were passive in OSPF (it might see incoming Hello messages but will not send any).

In addition to the request to see the router configuration it might be helpful if you could post the output of show ip ospf interface.
