HREAP in this case?

Hello.

We have a remote office that have two parts/rooms. First room has router, switch and some employees PCs second room has remaining PCs ,printers and switch of course. Only way how to connect these rooms was through wirelless. So we have now AP in each room.

Is there any possibility to manage them by our wlc? AP in first room has to do local switching so maybe to use HREAP. But I don't know how in this case.

Can you help?

David,

Both the AP's can be managed by your WLC, you need to tell the AP's about the WLC. Normally you would prime them.

However you need to convert them from autonomous (running IOS) to LWAPP, this can only be done locally to the AP's and they need to be taking out of production.

Then you would need to tell them about the WLC - priming. This would mean you would have to take the AP's to the same layer 2 LAN as the WLC....or you can do it via DNS or DHCP.

Thank you Andrew for your response. I know that by converting AP in first room to LAP (HREAP)it will be manageable by wlc and will be able to do local switching but I am not sure what about the AP in second room. The second room is accesible only by wirelles connection between these APs. My question is: Is it possible to make first AP as LAP (HREAP) and still be connected with second AP/LAP?

Yes it is possible - you would need to configure a Workgroup Bridge, but one of your AP's will need top stay in autonomous mode, that AP would be the one in the other room.

It is possible to manage thoses ap's on your wlc. YOu can either use local or h-reap mode, but just make sure of the minimum requirements for having ap's in either mode connect through the WAN. H-REAP would be the way to go if your ap's are currently autonomous. You still have to convert the ap's, but you will keep the same vlan info and ssid mapping.
