Hi,

Does anyone know the root of "RX MAC Discard Frame" only errors on a gigabitethernet controller?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Edison,

It seems i forgot to mention that the error appears on the onboard gigabitethernet controller of a 7200 and it accompanied exactly by the same number of "ignored" errors on the "sh interfaces gig...."

The "sh buffers" do not show any failures or any fallback to the public pool.

The packet loss across this interface is about 1%-2% while the errors on the "show ..." commands increase with fast rate. The interface connects to a broadcast domain (switch) with about 4 routing devices.

Could this be a result of receiving L2 frames with other dest MAC i.e. a "cosmetic error"?

It does help mentioning the hardware in question, thanks.

I did a little digging and it seems you may ignore this message as it's the result of the router receiving multicast packets on that interface w/o having multicast enabled.

I'm assuming this 7200 router has a NPE-G2?

Hi Edison,

Indeed it is a NPE-G2
