I asked someone at Cisco about the number of HWIC-2FE cards supported by the 3825 (they said 4 - one in each HWIC slot). This seems to be contradicted by the HWIC data sheet - which says only 2 HWIC-2FE cards can be used in the 3825. Which number is correct? (2 cards [4 FE ports] or 4 cards [8 FE ports)? Thanks much!

Hi doug,
It should be used by all hwic slots. But when I saw this document then I would use only maximum 2 cards per chassis because the document say you can only have 6 layer3-FastEthernet ports.

Thing is the HWIC-1FE and HWIC-2FE the minimum level is Cisco IOS 12.4(15)T.
It should be hardware limitation,I thought!
Hopes this helps

Hi Doug,
Below are your options on a Cisco 3825:
4 x 1-Port Fast Ethernet HWIC (ie. 1 to 4 HWIC-1FE may be installed in Slot 0 to slot 3)
OR
2 x 2-Port Fast Ethernet HWIC (ie. 1 to 2 HWIC-2FE may be installed in Slot 0 to slot 3)
