Backup authentication

Hi

My radius config is "aaa authentication login default group radius local

aaa authentication login if_needed group radius local" If_needed is configured to console port. If my radius servers are down and i try to get in to cisco box i dont get any message that i should use local username and password. Is there any way to get information that backup authentication in this case local username should use because radius servers are down.

As far as login banners are concerned, I don't believe there is a way to change banners based on what you are authenticating to (Radius vs local). From a security perspective, I don't think it is wise to reveal the status of your network or methods of authentication.

Depending on you Cisco device, you may find a syslog message.
