How to connect a Cat 3550 PWR with Cat 2948G

Hi, I want to connect a 2948G Switch with 3550 PoE switch together.

-2948G Switch (ver. 120-7.wx5.15a.bin)

3 Vlans

-3550 PWR PoE (122-25.SEE2)

3 Vlans

connected to internet

Requirement:

I want servers with diff. subnet connected on both switches to ping each other and to access internet too.

Pls. suggest a method with commands.

Hi,

You need to configure VTP for VLAN management between the switches, you need a trunk between the 2 switches. You need to configure layer 3 interfaces on the 3550 to handle the interVLAN IP traffic or pass this up to a router with ethernet sub-interfaces. You need to configure a default gateway for your internet traffic.

Unfortunately CAT 2948G cannot do trunking , only bridging , L3 (using BVI Interfaces)and also does encap dot1q, and Vlan's.

Knowing all the above how can we configure the connectivity between CAT 2948G and CAT 3550 PWR (knowing that is already connected to Internet) . Only servers/workstation connected to 2948G cannot connect to Internet.
