Installing CCM 6.1 Engineering Special (ES) on VMWare

I am new in the Call Manager 6.x business. please help.

I have a ISO image "UCSInstall_UCOS_ES_6.1.1.2105-2.sgn.iso"

which is an Engineering Special (ES). The ISO is about 1GB.

I installed VMWARE workstation version 5.x on my Windows 2003

Server, dual Processor 2.8Ghz with 6GB of RAM). When I point

the VMWare to use this image at bootup, it is not booting up

for me. I also tried the ISO image "6.1.1.1000-11_recovery.iso"

The VMWare booted up but it tells me that this is a recovery CD

so I know my VMware is good.

Anyone know why I can not boot up with the Engineering

Special ISO " UCSInstall_UCOS_ES_6.1.1.2105-2.sgn.iso"?

ES and SRs have never been bootable, you need the install DVD and during the install you will get an option to apply an ES or SR, then you can use the file you have

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the info. Will this work:

1- install CCM 6.0.1 on VMWare,

2- upgrade CCM 6.0.1 to version 6.1.1 with UCSInstall_UCOS_6.1.1.3000-2.sgn.iso_part1of2

and UCSInstall_UCOS_6.1.1.3000-2.sgn.iso_part2of2.

Will that work on VMWare platform? Thanks.

I have done this and it does work.

Just a warning that the upgrade can take ages. When i upgraded it failed a few times before i finally got it working. You have to be patient with it.

Matt,

Is it required that the VMWare partition for

this has to be 80GB in freespace? Can I get

away with just 20GB since this is just for lab

environment? Thanks.

I always use 80gb so not sure if it has a hardware check that will pick up the small harddrive.

Good thing about vmware is that you dont have to assign the full 20 or 80 GB if you make sure "Allocate all disk space now" is unchecked when you creating the virtual machine. This way it only allocates whats needed and allows it to grow dynamically.

The lagest size one of my images has grown to is around 10GB and that has had only around 20 phones installed. So they grow pretty large quickly.

Hi Matt,

My specialty is security. I have not touched

Call Manager in years. I did however, build

a few call managers 4.1(3) with the "hacked"

method on generic hardware platforms.

I was told that CCM 6 will not work on

non certified hardware except VMWare. I will

be installing on a Dell Server 2650, quad

processors with 4GB RAM with only 70GB HD.

I am wondering if I just install CCM directly

on the server without using VMware. After

all, CCM6 is nothing but Linux. However, I

was told that it will not work except on

VMWare. Cisco bootable CD will bypass the

hardware check if it detects VMWare.

Can you confirm? Thanks.

That is correct you have to install on vmware. The call manager software has a hardware check so it will not allow you to install on uncertified hardware.

So carry on installing on vmware. The good thing with this version is that it will give use a start license to get you going. Have fun let me know if you have any problems with the VMware install
