mpls lab setup

Hi all, is it possible for me to connect 2 routers back to back and setup mpls, is this easy to do ?

Carl,

You can depending on whether the routers support MPLS or not. The other thing to bear in mind is that the traffic will not be label switched unless you have a service label As the two routers are directly connected, the ingress LSR also becomes your penultimate hop router and will not push the IGP label in the packets.

do you need to use a routing protocol for mpls, can you use an IGP, or does it need to be an EGP ?

Carl,

Strictly for MPLS, you could use any IGP or even static routes. For MPLS VPN, you will need to configure mBGP between the two PEs to exchange VPNv4 updates, which contains the service labels by the way.
