hi there, im trying to setup failover between two ASA 5510 and on inter e0/3 (on both ASA's) i have plugged a crossover a cable directly connecting them. Will this work to configure LAN based failover with stateful failover or do I need to connect the 2 asa's with a serial cable?

andrew, thanks for the reply but having read that and looking at the diagram, it uses a serial cable and does not mention that straigh through ethernet cable can be used.

As there's no serial port on the ASA 5500 series appliances, you'll need to follow the LAN-based failover instructions in the Configuring Failover chapter of the Cisco Security Appliance Command Line Configuration Guide
