I have installed a vg224 voice gateway along with our cucm6.1 and have been unable to get a analog phone to work with it. The vg224 has been entered into the cm administration under gateways with sccp. I have attached a analog phone to the vg224 and configured it in the cm adminstration with a number assigned. What else am I missing to get this to work. I have only had experience with the older vg248 which was not ios based.

You need to make sure you configured sccp connection on that vg224. Make sure that it is registered to call manager. Here is a sample configuration of the vg224 configured as a sccp gateway in call manager.
sccp local FastEthernet0/0
sccp ccm X.X.X.X identifier 10
sccp ccm X.X.X.X identifier 12
sccp
!
sccp ccm group 1
associate ccm 10 priority 1
associate ccm 12 priority 2
stcapp ccm-group 1
stcapp
dial-peer voice 1 pots
service stcapp
port 2/1
dial-peer voice 2 pots
service stcapp
port 2/2
etc....
Do a "show sccp" to see if the device is registered to call manager.
