ASA 5510 Ethernet Interface Summary

Please identify the difference between the base license and the Security bundle. I'm confused on the number of interfaces and VLAN's supported on the two bundles.

The sales documentation I look at indicates that the base bundle supports 5 FE and the security bundle supports 2 GE and 3 FE.

1. Base supports 1 Mgt Ethernet and three 10/100 Ethernet ports?

2. Security Bundle supports 1 Mgt Ethernet and two 10/100/1000 and two 10/100?

3. How do you limit the ports to 10/100, or allow them at 10/100/1000?

4. How many VLANS are supported in base, how many in the Security Bundle?

Hi there,

To answer your questions:

1. The base license will support 5 10/100 ethernet ports, 4 regular FastEthernet, and 1 Management port which can be configured to be used for data traffic.

2. Security License supports 2 10/100/1000 ports and 3 FastEthernet (2 Regular + 1 Management port)

3. They limit the ports based on the license -- just like cell phone makers sell phones with certain features disabled in the firmware.

4. The base license supports up to 50 VLAN interfaces, and the Security Plus license allows you up to 100 VLAN interfaces.

Also, the Security Plus license "unlocks" other useful features such as Active/Standby and Active/Active failover, and multiple context mode (req'd for Active/Active failover)

Hope that helps!
