I am trying to SSH to a router i have setup but is asks for a username and passwordn unlike telnet. I have read somewhere it doesn't use the line password as telnet does.
Not sure what i'm missing -
line con 0
login local
no modem enable
line aux 0
line vty 0 4
privilege level 15
password xxx
login
transport input telnet ssh

Have you looked at this specific part of the doc regarding setting up authentication on your router

You are correct. You either need a local username/password or use a AAA server as you cannot use ssh with the line password.
See this doc for detailed steps in setting up config for authentication.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I current have two local users account but neither works when I get the "login as" prompt when I ssh from putty.
