3750 stack what image is needed for comm between vlans

For example we will have multiple vlans on the stack (broadcast domains)

VLAN 10 printers 10.1.1.0-/24

VLAN 20 server 20.1.1.0-/24

VLAN 30 PC 30.1.1.0-/24

VLAN 40 Phones 40.1.1.0-/24

Someone on there PC wants to print to printer on VLAN 10 from VLAN 30

Is the -S image (IPB) ok for this?? its not clear in any doco what image is needed for routing between vlans (SVI's intervlan routing) on single 3750 stack.

WS-C3750-48PS-S

Catalyst 3750 48 10/100 PoE + 4 SFP + IPB Image

WS-C3750-48PS-E

Catalyst 3750 48 10/100 PoE + 4 SFP + IPS Image

Thanks

Allan

The 3750 is a L3 switch so even with IP Base it will do inter-vlan routing. So you just need to create L3 SVI's for each vlan you want to route between and on the clients/printers set the default-gateway to be the corresponding SVI address.

The IP Base image also supports RIP and EIGRP stub routing but you don't need either of these to achieve what you want.

HI Allan,

As far as the image selection for Inter-VLAN routing is concerned, IP Base or IP services would do.

However since you are planning to stack these switches you should take special care wich that IOS version you are running.

Ideal situation would be when you are running IPB or IPS on all the switches. But here is what will happen in your scenario -

"The Catalyst 3750 IP services image cryptographic image has a higher priority than the Catalyst 3750 IP base image during the master switch election in a stack. However, when two or more switches in the stack use different software images, such as the IP base image for Cisco IOS Release 12.1(11)AX and the cryptographic IP services image for Cisco IOS Release 12.1(19)EA1 or later, the switch running the IP base image is selected as the stack master. This occurs because the switch running the cryptographic IP services image takes 10 seconds longer to start than does the switch running the IP base image. The switch running the IP services image is excluded from the master election process that lasts 10 seconds. To avoid this problem, upgrade the switch running the IP base image to a software release later than Cisco IOS Release 12.1(11)AX or manually start the master switch and wait at least 8 seconds before starting the new member switch."

Thank you both !
