Config-ing the ASA to allow monitoring

i'm using Paessler's Traffic monitoring tool to check on my equipment and was wanting to monitor a line coming out of our ASA.

the problem is that i cannot ping the ASA outside interface. And i'm pretty sure it's an ACL issue.

has anyone configured an ASA to allow monitoring? And what would the ACL look like?

Do you really need to ping the ASA outside interface? How about pinging the IP of the other host on the 'outside' subnet? Can you just use SNMP to monitor the interface of the ASA?

well, you know, that's a thought.

i'll see if I can ping the otherside's gateway.

i did tracert from the monitoring PC but the trace took another route to get to the Cox's gateway.

Any thoughts?
