Smart BGP Load Balancing

I'm hoping that I can get your guys input or perspective on bgp load-balancing appliances. I'm talking about those appliances which claim to work with bgp to offer "smarter" outbound load-balancing. Anybody ever used any of these and can recommend one?

If you're unaware, Cisco's OER/PfR also offers BGP load balancing, i.e. feature in some of latest IOS images.
