Cisco 2610 Router boot up failure

I have a 2610 router that fails on boot up... the only output i get from the console port is a continuous string of €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€

This symptoms of the strange character output is sometimes the result of a speed mismatch between the speed setting of the router and the speed setting of your terminal emulator (Hyperterm or whatever you are using). Is your terminal emulator set to the default of 9600? If it is I would suggest that you experiment with different speed settings. Start with the lowest of 1200 and work your way up through the speeds. I believe that this router may have 115200 as its top console speed. Note that with some emulators like Hyperterm you need to stop and restart each time you change the speed. Otherwise the emulator may not pick up the new speed.
