Call manager 5.1 - Device License calculation

Unanswered Question
May 4th, 2008

While designing a UC solution based on Call Manager 5.1, how do we account for the device licenses which is based on the part number LIC-CM-DL-xx=. We just have to take into account the number of IP phones or we also have to take into account H.323 gateways, conferencing and MoH session which also consume device units?

For example, if the solution consists of 100 7911G phones ( 3 units) and 50 7960G phones ( each 4 units), should i configure the system with one qty of LIC-CM-DL-500= or do i need to take into account the device units consumed by other resources also?

Many thanks

I have this problem too.

Hi Gnanavel,

You are most welcome! One thing to keep in mind is that most systems have a slight License overdraft (so you may have some grace here);

The License "Overdraft" is determined by Cisco and can be between 5 and 15%. It will show on the License File. Have a look (at this line in the file);

OVERDRAFT=50 indicates (5% of 1000) allowed overdraft. Cisco determines the overdraft value.

From this example;

INCREMENT PHONE_UNIT cisco 5.0 permanent uncounted \

icFileVersion> \

HOSTID=000bcd4ee59d OVERDRAFT=50 \

NOTICE="200508261405391622 \

From this 5.0 doc;

Hope this helps!
