CiscoWorks LMS 3.0.1 DFM and DCR Device Naming

Unanswered Question

I have configured DFM to send email messages but I want the "managed object" description in the email body to show the hostname of the device vs. the IP address of the device. The DFM devices have been deleted and resynced with the DCR, but still the DFM devices always show the device by the IP address. I want my DFM "database" look like the DCR database. The DCR is configured "Display Name: and Host Name: to show the device name and not the IP address. I don't want to get email messages informing that a device is in trouble and the MANAGED OBJECT shows the IP address of the device. Hopefully I'm clear on this.

I have this problem too.

DFM is the only application in LMS which does not respect the DCR display name. In order to get DFM to show hostnames, the device has to have a very specific one-to-one mapping for hostname to IP and vice versa. Try usinf the resolver.pl tool to verify your DNS is properly configured:

NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/bin/resolver.pl IP

NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/bin/resolver.pl HOSTNAME

If you do not get the proper hostname back for the IP, add an entry for the device in the server's local hosts file and try again. When resolver.pl shows you the correct results, you can delete the device from DFM, then re-add it, and you should see the hostname.
