Is there a limit on how mnay gateways you can register to a single gatekeeper? or how many e.164 numbers can be registered to gatekeeper?

Gatekeeper limitations/recommendations are as follows: (some limitations are mandated by hardware type & memory available)

max CCM Clusters Supported: 100

max Local Zones: not to exceed 100

max Remote Zones - Directory GK: not exceed 10,000 (if does not handle local registrations; requires 4MB additional)

max Zones (GK handles local registrations and e.164 calls): not to exceed 200

max Zones (GK handles h323-ID calls): not to exceed 200

This information is useful, but my question still remains as to how many gateways can you register?

I am only doing one zone gatekeeper

no limit except for the limitations previously posted.

e.164s can have upto 10,000 for a DGK. i'd keep your local router/GK at 5,000 or below if it does all registrations and e.164 calls.

(should be a fast router; slower/smaller routers keep 2,000 or below)

Hi Greg, if you don't mind me asking which reference doc did you find this info on?

Cheers. Darren

For gatekeeper performance data, we generally recommend that you solicit the help of your Cisco SE because the answer depends to a very large extent on what application the gatekeeper is supporting. That might also explain why there's little customer facing documentation on the subject.

A 3845 gatekeeper with 10 gateway endpoints registered to it and handling 5 calls per second would be under much less stress than one with 10 gateway endpoints registered to it and handling 50 calls per second.

Obviously the number of calls per second is an important factor when determining gatekeeper performance. Also important is the number of concurrent calls.

The guideline for a 3845 is a maximum capacity of 100 Calls per second, and 15000 active calls.

The CCM SRND states the following:

'The choice of gatekeeper platform is based on the number of calls per second and the number of concurrent calls. A higher number of calls per second requires a more powerful CPU, such as a Cisco 3700, 3800, or 7200 Series Router. A higher number of concurrent calls requires more memory. For the latest information on platform selection, contact your Cisco partner or Cisco Systems Engineer (SE).'

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Michael.
