Multilink 2 T1s vs DS3@ 3Meg for Internet

Sorry for the basic question:

Is a PPP multilink true load sharing across the two T1 lines (if two are multilinked)?

I mean it isn't like a regular DS3 throttled down to 3Meg is it?

How is the utilization on two multilinked T1 lines different than a DS3 throttled to 3.0 meg on the same pipe?

It seems I read something that multilink is not the same as a single pipe at the same bandwidth, but I don't remember what it was.

I wish that we knew a bit more about what you have read about the behavior of multilink as compared to a subrate T3.

It is my understanding that multilinking 2 T1s will really equally share the load over both of the links. In that respect I believe that it is quite like having a single subrate T3.

There is some overhead of performing multilink. so in that respect having a single subrate T3 might have slightly less CPU overhead than having multilinked T1s. But I doubt that you can get a subrate T3 for the cost of 2 T1s.
