What is stuck in active in EIGRP?

can anyone explain it with examples.

Stuck In Active (SIA) refers to when an EIGRP router queries it's neighbor about a route but doesn't receive a reply within 3 minutes. EIGRP then marks the route as SIA.

SIA errors can occur by:

1. The link is unidrectional

2. The router is under heavy load causing it to not be able to reply in time

3. Hardware issues e.g memory problems

4. Link speed to low

I have one more doubt.When will the EIGRP router queries its neighbor about a route,if it doesn't know how to reach the destination(no particular entry in routing table).So if any route fails it will mark it as SIA.

Plz clarify it

If the eigrp doesnt recieve any reply within a calculated time interval after sending the query, then that route is marked as SIA.

If a router loses a route from its routing table, it will first consult with the EIGRP topology table to see if there is a feasible successor that it can use as a successor route in the routing table. If not, then it will classify the route as beng active, query its neighbors for reachability information, start a 3-minute timer and wait for a response. If no response is received within that 3 minute time period, the route will become classified as stuck-in-active, and the process repeats itself.

if tne marks the route as Stuck-in-active then what will hapeen to the route..will the EIGRP router drops the pkt to destination

Not only does the router drop pkts to destination but it also brings down neighbors from which it didnt recv any reply to its query.

Not exactly. It resets the neighbor relationship. So it goes down and then comes back up. It doesnt stay down. Otherwise, how would the router ever hope to hear a query from that neighbor?

The point of resetting is a hope that the router has that rebuilding the relationship will solve the problem of not receiving a reply.
