Static Routing with timers

Unanswered Question
May 15th, 2008

Hi all,

We are using DXX as a primary link and I-Direct as secondary link between our Head Office and a branch office in other city. We are using static routing for automatic switching between the links i.e. when DXX goes down I-Direct comes up automatically. These days our DXX is fluctuating. This creates alot of trouble. Is there any thing as a timer on static routes that if our DXX is down and I-Direct is working and suddenly DXX comes up so I-Direct should wait for a certain hold down time before switching back to DXX.

Thanks in advance.

I have this problem too.

which type of interfaces do you have?

In general, you can use a 'backup interface' command with a specific 'backup delay'.

backup delay 10 30 ! 30 is your 'hold down time

backup interface

Remember: it's important that on during the fault the encapsulation goes down to use correctly the backup interface
