Router Memory

Hello my friends,

I have a question about Router memory in general.

show memory summary

Head Total(b) Used(b) Free(b) Lowest(b) Largest(b)

Processor 203E77C 1316996 1316180 816 0 116

I/O 2180000 524288 292696 231592 155244 195684

The total memory size is

1316996 + 524288 = 1841284 Bytes

And from the show version

cisco 1601 (68360) processor (revision C) with 1536K/512K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID 10164160, with hardware revision 00000000

Bridging software.

Total from show 1536K + 512K= 2 MB

So, there is a difference between the total memory from the show memory summary and the show version, why that?

Thanks in advance

Hi

can you check whether any dead process is occupying the memory ?

you can check the same using show memory dead command.

==================================

The 2224 Bytes is the sum of the memory allocated by dead processes?

which means i need to add this value plus Processor and I/O memory sizes, but this is not the same as real memory size (2 MB)

Many Thanks

The show version will show the total hardware memory installed on the router.

show memory sum "Free(b)" will show the memory installed minus the amount taken by the IOS.

Correction to the post above, "Free(b)" should be Total (b)

Thanks a lot.
