DFM highutilization events, why?

Hi there,

I hope someone can spread some light on the following.

We often get dfm highutilization events like the these for vg248 devices:

EVENT ID = 0001OSG

ALERT ID = 0000DPO

TIME = Thu 22-May-2008 07:13:46 CEST

STATUS = Active

SEVERITY = Critical

MANAGED OBJECT = 172.20.24.28

MANAGED OBJECT TYPE = Voice and Telephony

EVENT DESCRIPTION = HighUtilization::Component=IF-172.20.24.28/1 [Ethernet adapter] [172.20.24.28];OutputPacketRate=3.7 PPS;Type=ETHERNETCSMACD;CurrentUtilization=1.22978296E11 %;InputPacketRate=3.8733335 PPS;TrafficRate=1.53722871E16 BYPS;UtilizationThreshold=40;DuplexMode=FULLDUPLEX;MaxSpeed=100000000;

When looking at the currentutilization rate being displayed, I'm not able to match this with the UtilizationThreshold setting

that should trigger such an event. Does someone know why we are getting these events with CurrentUtilization

figures like these?

Any help is much appreciated!

We've seen this from time to time with DFM. The reason the event gets generated is that DFM thinks the utilization is 1.53x10^16 Bps or 1.23 x 10^11% (123,000,000,000%). This problem could be caused by a counter rollover, or a bug in DFM. We've been tracking a few such customer cases. You might want to contact the TAC about this.
