Answered Question
May 23rd, 2008

Hi,

We have WS-X6348-RJ-45, WS-X6324-100FX-MM, WS-X6408A-GBIC and WS-X6816-GBIC ( with daughter card WS-F6K-DFC ). Can these modules work with WS-SUP720-3B and new line card WS-X6724-SFP?

Best Regards,

I have this problem too.

The linecards will work (except the DFC) however classic linecards (and CEF256) will affect the performance of the chassis. To get the best performance you need to use all CEF720 linecards, if you use Classic modules then the chassis has to fallback (to some extent) for compatibility.

I saw some marketing slides last year regarding the architecture of the 6500 and how different types of linecards interact. The switching paths with mixed linecards is pretty much all over the place....
