classic and cef256 module support sup720

Hi,

We have WS-X6348-RJ-45, WS-X6324-100FX-MM, WS-X6408A-GBIC and WS-X6816-GBIC ( with daughter card WS-F6K-DFC ). Can these modules work with WS-SUP720-3B and new line card WS-X6724-SFP?

Answers are as follows:

WS-X6724-SFP = YES

WS-X6348-RJ-45 = YES

WS-X6324-100FX-MM = YES

WS-F6K-DFC = NO

(use WS-F6K-DFC3B or WS-F6K-DFC3BXL; for 65xx/6816 modules)

(or use WS-F6700-DFC3B or WS-F6700-DFC3BXL; for 6700 modules)

WS-X6408A-GBIC = YES

WS-X6816-GBIC = YES

The linecards will work (except the DFC) however classic linecards (and CEF256) will affect the performance of the chassis. To get the best performance you need to use all CEF720 linecards, if you use Classic modules then the chassis has to fallback (to some extent) for compatibility.

I saw some marketing slides last year regarding the architecture of the 6500 and how different types of linecards interact. The switching paths with mixed linecards is pretty much all over the place....
