Switchport last in use

Does anybody know if there is a command thats gives an indication of when a switchport was last in use. If not possible retrospectively is it possible to set up a monitor to log switchport access. The only way ic an think is to look for switchport up/down messages in the log, but seems a bit time consuming. I have had a nosey around show int fa0/0 switchport but cant see anything obvious. Thanks. Geoff

Only the 4500 series seem to have this feature and this is with the "show inteface link" command . Why they don't do this on all their switches I don't know , there seems to be enough call for it . Should be part of all IOS code.

An option for other switches is to check

"Last input, output interface"

FastEthernet2/0/5 is down, line protocol is down (notconnect)

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last input never, output 8w5d, output hang never

Last output traffic seen on this port..8weeks, can't say precisely about the input
