Difference between the 1800 and 2800 series routers

Can someone give me some quick pointers of the differences between the 1800 series router and the 2800 series router?

Why should I buy the 1800 over the 2800?

OR

Why should I buy the 2800 over the 1800?

if you need user more services you need a router 2800 or 3800 if you need less services you need a small router like a 1800

I was told by an AT&T nw engineer that you could not put dual wan ports on a 1800 - don't know if its true, but that would stop me from buying them for my remote sites that need redundant isp connections

aren't the 1811 & 1812 "made" for dual wan ? :o

as you can see there are "wan ports" (with 's') which seems to mean you can have 2 Wan ports :)

So clearly some of the 1800 support two and some support only one.

Another comparison is that the 1800 fixed configuration routers (1801, 1802, 1803, 1811, 1812, not 1841 or 1861) include built in Ether switch. So you get Ethernet switching and routing in the same box. The 2800 has an optional Ether switch module but none come with built in Ether switch.

I find it interesting that on the 1800 the FastEthernet interfaces are called WAN while on the 2800 the FastEthernet interfaces are called LAN. Same FastEthernet interfaces are WAN or LAN depending on where you are reading. So do not get wrapped up in WAN port or LAN port distinctions.

I fundamentally like the first response which sort of says 2800 is bigger, faster, more capacity, and more expensive. 1800 is smaller, lower capacity, less expensive. That is the important distinction.
