Failed Redundancy on Catalyst 6509 with 720-10G sup Engine

Hi,

We have one catalyst 6509 with 2 supervosir engine 720-10G (MSFC3 PFC3C included). This Catalyst boot with IOS 12.2(33)SXH.

But the second supervisor crash on boot with the error that you'll find attached to this post.

On the realse note of this IOS they say that we must have the identical supervisors on the catalyst in order to have the redundancy between both supervisors.

On my hardware configuration I have only :

3 x Catalyst 6500 256MB DDR, xCEF720

3 x Catalyst 6500 Central Fwd Card for WS-X67xx modules

You'll find also the hardware configuration of our Catalyst.

And when I put the show module I have :

It looks like the SP isn't able to open a communications channel with the RP, and is inducing a crash as a result. As the above poster mentioned, chances are the hardware will need to be replaced. You should consider opening a TAC case so our architecture team can investigate.

When I start the Catalyst only with the 2nd supervisor (I removed the first one), it start and no problem to work in the chassis. And it reconize all the modules in the chassis.

Not sure if you have resolved you issue yet or not but I stumbled across this thread as I was dealing with the exact same issue.

For me is was one of the RAM modules in the Secondary Sup. I am in the process of RMA'ing the unit now. To test this I swapped the ram from my primary to my secondary and it cam right up then my Primary failed with the new memory in it just like the secondary had. Not sure how this explains your ability to boot the secondary with the primary out but I would look at the RAM.

Best of luck
