Clarification on IOS Feature Set

Hi,

From what I understand if I have currently IP BASE IOS Feature Set and would like to upgrade it to ADVANCED ENTERPRISE, I can just purchase the ADVANCED ENTERPRISE and nothing more.

However, a vendor told me that I have to purchase ENTERPRISE BASE (mandatory), ENTERPRISE SERVICES (mandatory), then ADVANCED ENTERPRISE. They show me this link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5460/index.html which I've seen it many time and I believe is just a feature inheritance.

What will I do with so many IOS then?

Regards,

Dandy

Hi Dandy,

You just need Adv Enterprise IOS and load it on the router.

Hi Sushi,

Thank you for your reply.

However, the vendor replied to me that there is no license upgrade directly from IP Base to Advance Enterprise....

...and sent the following available options

FL28-AISK9-AESK9= Cisco 2800 Ser Adv IP Services to Adv Ent Services Upgrade

FL28-ASK9-AISK9= Cisco 2800 Ser Adv. Security to Adv. IP Serv. upgrade

FL28-EB-ESK9= Cisco 2800 Ser Ent Base to Ent Services Upgrade

FL28-ESK9-AESK9= Cisco 2800 Ser Ent Services to Adv Ent Services Upgrade

FL28-IPV-SPSK9= Cisco 2800 Ser IP Voice to SP Services Upgrade

FL28-SPSK9-ESK9= Cisco 2800 Ser SP Services to Ent Services Upgrade

FL28-SPSK9-AISK9= Cisco 2800 Ser SP Services to Adv IP Services Upgrade

FL28-IPB-ASK9= Cisco 2800 Series IP Base to Advanced Security upgrade

FL28-IPB-EB= Cisco 2800 Series IP Base to Enterprise Base upgrade

FL28-IPB-IPV= Cisco 2800 Series IP Base to IP Voice upgrade

FL28-R1= Adv Ent Serv to Adv Ent Serv +SNA switching upgrade lic

FL28-CB= Corvil Bandwidth Feature License for 2800 Series

Regards,

Dandy

Dandy,

If you are talking about the FL then the upgrade licenses would be gradual.

Cisco 2800 Series IP Base to Enterprise Base

Cisco 2800 Ser Ent Base to Ent Services Cisco 2800 Ser Ent Services to Adv Ent Services

Reason - to match with the costing of an Adv Ent Image for 2800 router -

CD28-AESK9= CISCO 2801 ADVANCED ENTERPRISE SERVICES Feature Pack

Just check the price of this part number with the cumulative sum of the FL.

Anyway physically on the router the upgrade would be just one shot install Adv Ent IOS.

Hope this claifies what our vendor is trying to convey.

->

You may be right.

For us, physically it will just be one shot upgrade.

However, I find it funny to list down all those items in the BOM which will trigger many questions.

I also found something.

1. Existing router with IP Base to upgrade to Advance Enterprise.

- Purchase IP Base to Enterprise Base upgrade license

- Purchase Enterprise Base to Enterprise Services upgrade license

- Purchase Enterprise Services to Advance Enterprise upgrade license

Total IOS Upgrade Cost: USD2,000.00 (sample only)

2. Router to purchase (new)

- Factory Upgrade to Advance Enterprise

Factory Upgrade Cost: USD2,050.00 (sample only)

I don't see why they can't just sell the direct upgrade to Advance Enterprise which there are little difference in cost. Have to go to all those trouble creating the BOM and explaining them. Some people want to make life difficult for everybody and themselves :)

Man if you are ordering a new router then you should order factory upgrade only. Instead of going through all that hassel.

Oh, i have two. One existing that need the upgrade to Adv Ent, the new one need to have Adv Ent also. I just comparing the price which is around USD50 difference for IOS :)

Actually I'm installing it for a client which is known to always ask line-by-line the information in the BOM (also the "show version" output).

Dandy, this is how customers are. right :)

Pain in you know.

Anyway for the new router you cna directly go for factory upgrade and for the existing one no other option apart from the step by step FL.
