When I install the new VPN client other PC's on the network cannot ping my PC.

do you mean when you connect to a remote vpn site? or just when you have it installed, but not running.
why are other pc's trying to ping you?

I'm not sure why but installing the client prevents anyone on the local network from pinging my machine. I am not connected remotely. Simply having it installed prevents any machine from pinging me on any adapter (wired, wireless).

I've seen this before, try this:
-Launch the VPN client
-Click on "Options"
-Uncheck "Stateful Firewall"
That worked for me.
