Hello,
I guess Catalyst 3750 is a good choice for you, I use this type in stacked architecture and it works well for 300 people, of course the load on the switch is no more than 10-15%.

Does 3560 with c3560-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE
5.bin" image can support as L3 i configured 8 vlan's.
The port connected to router on this switch is assigned to the vlan 10 i,e of router Eth0 segment and in switch mode. IP routing is enabled. I have some disconnections at times.
I need this switch to support 500 users with remaining switches in client mode.

Yes it can do layer 3 routing but does not support enhanced routing protocols without the ipservices image like ospf , bgp etc.. You should not need an external router to router between the vlans . if you plan on trunking you can set the 3560 as the vtp server to propagate define vlans down to the other switches. Discoonect problems generally tend to be layer 1 issues or speed/duplex mismatches.
