A tagged frame that contains a VID where the receiving port is not a member of that VLAN

VLAN identifier (VID) -- the 12-bit portion of the VLAN tag in the frame

header that identifies an explicit VLAN.

Hope this helps.

is there another name for this, can you explain a little more on this ?

the errors are mostly filtered in notrtel passport swithes and 470 PWR.

They have 2 option ON/OFF while configuring the port. ON would discard the frame and OFF would allow the frame to move.

When a frame moves from a port which is vlan 10 to port desg to another switch on the same vlan.

The frame moves from the trunk link (TAG) tagging the frame towards the desg swith for the port. But the port desg is not configuired for vlan10.

This frame would be unregistered frame. Mostly this unregirered frame would occur in where IPphones are implemented.

pravin
