Determine DSL speed from a router CLI

We have several remote sites that connect back to our MPLS network over VPN tunnels. All the remote sites have DSL connections.

I need to gauge the speed of the DSL connection to determine whether the site should be upgraded to a T1 from a true service provider (i.e. Verizon, ATT, Global Crossing etc).

I know there are several bandwith test sites out there but they all need to be run from a PC sitting on the local network. The problem is, ALL Internet traffic is routed out of a proxy server sitting at a different location. It wouldn't be a true test from the site.

Is there a way to perform a bandwidth test from the router's CLI?

You can see the speed on the circuit with "show dsl interface", assuming the router has such an interface.

The router also has tcperf, but that would not much different than executing it from a PC.

bandwidth can be tested using cli with show dsl interface or show interface dsl.

I strongly feel that wont help since you may need to take the reading on regular basis on the router.

As you said there are lot of sites which can test the line bandwidth.

Why dont you try to config a bandwidth monitoring tool and it will poll the interface on regular basis showing you the graph for day hour and min performance.

On of a free tool which i know is MRTG.

I have used solarwinds and its great. these tools require snmp sring to poll the graph.
