hi Sinu!
VS-S720-10G-3C is a supervisor engine for 7600 with 10GE uplinks whereas WS-X6704-10GE is a 10GE linecard.
The sup-720 is the intelegence and has the route processor and switch processor which takes the decisions and builds the control plane. Also it has the switching fabric integrated on it.
The linecard on the other hand is just a card with 10GE ports. It has no intelegence and depends on sup to make the forwarding decisions.
A supervisor engine is mandatory on the switch.
