I have 20 Mb wan link , it shows interface output like
5 minute input rate 59454000 bits/sec, 5713 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 3956000 bits/sec, 3384 packets/sec
Is it possible ?
It generate wrong reports to solarwind.
Kindly suggest.

whats the interface you have for the 20 Mb Wan link,
Show run and show int would be helpful.
Also let us know which option of solarwinds you are finding like gauge or bandwidth monitor.

HI,
I am not sure about the problem.
But the outpt you have pasted isactually showing the interface utilization just for 5 minutes. It does not tells you the link badwidth.
Request give some more details about your issue.

try this.
On this interface apply the command bandwidth with the your link speed 20Mb. this should be applied in kilobits.
The reason why it is calautaion in this way is because this is a fa link. and see the aoutput by ur self.
Internet address is a.b.c.d/30
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,
BW is showw as 100Mb. The bw commnad will not do any diffrence to the interface but will help it in calulating it.
Hope this helps

Pravin

I don't think configuring the bandwidth command is going to make any difference.
However it does not hurts to give it a try.
Would like to see the result.

Sushil/Pravin ,
My question is if ISP has given me 20 Mb link then how the input rate on the link is near about 59 Mb thats why in solarwind my link shows as 300% utilization.
Pravin in solarwind i have configured the bandwidth as 20000000.
I will configure the bandwidth as 20000 on both side int but i have to moniter tommorow the utilization as there are no users available now.
06-17-2008 04:45 AM
Hi,
Let me explain why you are seeing the 59 Mb. As i said above the FA interface calulates the BW with defaul of 100Mb.
In case of serail E1 or T1 the clock is auto set to 2 Mb or 1.5 Mb.
Since it is a FA interface you need to use the command "Bandwidth 20000" on the interface.
If its a solarwinds gauge in setting it will take it default as 100Mb you need to change that again to get the BW of 20000.
Hope this helps

pravin,
Let me know solarwind takes which bw from router .
is it the input output rate ?
06-17-2008 06:01 AM
Hi,
Solarwinds polls the routers information. What you can see on the router you will able to see the same on the solarwinds. It will poll the input and the output rate. Depending on the tools you are using.
For calculating purpose and see if what is been calculated on the interface is right thats the reason why i have recommeded for the commnad. If that show rx and tx as 255 and 255 that means you are getting 100 % at the same time you can check what is the reflected bw on the solarwinds. Using the Gauge is the best option.

Pravin

Hi Pravin ,
I have configured the bandwidth on wan link as 20000.It is not so helpful as traffic is coming on link more than 20Mb/s , in solarwind it is showing more than 100%.
Let me know if any changes need to be done.

Hi,
As per the out i dont see its 100 %
txload 18/255, rxload 148/255. 148 would be around 60 to 70 % used.
Since you say that the solarwinds is showing you 20 Mb at point of time and the interface also might have 255/255 at a point then surely you are getting more bandwidth that what you need to.
Is this link from the ISP pluged into the fa port ?

pravin

Pravin ,
Output given above isnot for 100 or more %.I have given just int o/p.I am watching always the 5 min in/out avg rate.
My basic question is solarwind takes which bw it is txload18/255 , rxload148/255 or 5 minutes in/out put rate ?
My guess is it is 5 min input and output rate as i saw the same in solarwind also.

Hi,
solarwinds has a option where in you can set the time it polls it. The Minimum is 3 sec. I would not say that it would reflect the rx/tx or 5 min output. It will poll the interface depending on the set time to poll interverl on the soalrwinds. If you set it to 3 seconds it will reflect each varations in BW in 3 sec.
The polling on solarwinds is through the SNMP if the snmp traps are right it will reflect the right BW on the monitoring tool.

Pravin

Thanks prvin ,
I have the problem with receive BW which shows me more than 20 Mb how it is possible as reliance has given me link of 20 Mb only.
on int if 5 min input rate shows as 59000000 bit/sec it means 59 Mb/Sec is traffic arriving on your port , am i right ?
