7971 touch screen won't respond to touch

I've got a 7971 Cisco phone. This morning the touch screen wouldn't respond to pressing the buttons on the screen. went back over the users profile and phone all the settings seem to be correct. any ideas how to fix it? I've found a clear button at the bottom right of the phone if held down it will say touch screen disable and if held down again it will say touch screen enabled but it doesn't seem to work.

Please try to reboot the IP Phone. Or else there is a JVM error i.e. there may be an out of memory exception. A memory leak in the JVM and this will cause JVM to crash resulting in touch screen being affected.
