One of the biggest hurdles to our deployment of Cisco IP Communicator is getting the correct MAC address from the user. Does the Device Name need to be based upon a MAC address? We have tried a randomly generated device name with alphanumeric characters and the application still seems to work.
Thanks!

It can be device names. I use it all the time. Mac is always a pain.

i agree with shanky, even my IPC is not based on the MAC from my laptop =), IT told me what to use as device name and it works like a charm
it's also really useful if you keep going between wired and wireless like me
