Regarding AutoRP command in multicasting

Hi Folks,

I wanted to know that Do we need Auto-RP listender command if we configure ip pim sparse mode with ios version12.4

I configred pim sparse mode in ios version12.4 yesterday and all the multicast enabled routers was adding the 239.0.0.39 as welll as 239.0.0.40 groups without Auto-rp listender command.

I am not sure if cisco added the extra functionality with ios version 12.4 for multicast

any idea?

The auto-rp listener command enables you to listen for the auto-rp "dense" multicast groups 239.0.0.39 and 239.0.0.40 on an interface running in sparse mode only.

The behavior hasn't changed in 12.4

Can you post the output from the following commands:

show ip mroute

show ip pim rp mapping

show ip pim interface

Please clear the mroute table and wait 5-10 minutes before issuing the commands above.
