IP SLA - How to emulate an app

We are starting to use IP SLA with Cacti to monitor network conditions. We have an extensive VoIP installation (no complaints about it) and an even more extensive Citrix installation. Remote offices all over the country use WYSE terminals to access desktops from a centralized data center.

I'd like to setup a realistic IP SLA suite of tests that would accurately reflect citrix traffic performance over the WAN.

Is anyone aware of any recipes for IP SLA measurements that have been tuned to reflect "application x" or "application y"? Especially if Citrix is on the list..

Thanks,

ajs

Hi,

I'm not sure how IP SLA integrates with Cacti, but to measure Citrix availability and response time you can use the "tcp connect" operation (to connect to the citrix port), which is explained in detail here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_4t/ip_sla/configuration/guide/httcpc.html

If you plan to schedule a lot of operations at once then you should also read this doc:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_4t/ip_sla/configuration/guide/htmulti.html

HTH

Andrew.
