ACE logging - rserver and probes

sthon-dbsys
Level 1
Level 1

on CSS I get an info if a server fails the keepalive and get in state "down, up or suspended". This is logged in the traplog file on the CSS.

Is there any possibility on an ACE to have logs for rserver state changes like "PROBE-FAILED, OPERATIONAL and OUT-OF-SERVICE"

thx in advance

Error Message %ACE-3-251006: Health probe failed for server A.B.C.D on port P,

internal error: error message

If you enable logging at level error or higher you should see these probe failed messages.

Gilles.

Hi Gilles,

1. looks fine, but I miss the rserver Name in the log. it only appears the ip address of the server.

So it looks like that the "ip address log" is implemented :-(

b-sllb2001-09/db_bku-nK2# show rserver sthon

rserver : sthon, type: HOST

state : PROBE-FAILED

---------------------------------

----------connections-----------

real weight state current total

---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+--------------------

serverfarm: test.db.de

172.24.100.98:0 8 PROBE-FAILED 0 0

b-sllb2001-09/db_bku-nK2# show logging | i ACE-3

Jun 25 2008 09:20:14 : %ACE-3-251011: ICMP health probe failed for server 172.24.100.98, server reply timeout

Jun 25 2008 09:20:23 : %ACE-3-251011: ICMP health probe failed for server 172.24.100.98, server reply timeout

Jun 25 2008 09:20:54 : %ACE-3-251011: ICMP health probe failed for server 172.24.100.98, server reply timeout

Jun 25 2008 09:21:54 : %ACE-3-251011: ICMP health probe failed for server 172.24.100.98, server reply timeout

2. I can find nothing in the log when the probe gets "operational" or "out-of-service state".

Is thos correct ?

b-sllb2001-09/db_bku-nK2# show rserver sthon

rserver : sthon, type: HOST

state : OPERATIONAL

---------------------------------

----------connections-----------

real weight state current total

---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+--------------------

serverfarm: test.db.de

172.24.100.98:0 8 OPERATIONAL 0 0

Actually, looking into the code, there are messages for rserver going up and down.

#define REAL_SERVER 442 /* REAL_SERVER group id */

#define REAL_SERVER_STATE_UP_ID 4442001

#define REAL_SERVER_STATE_DOWN_ID 4442002

#define REAL_SERVER_STATE_CHANGE_ID 4442003

#define RSERVER_STATE_UP_ID 4442004

#define RSERVER_STATE_DOWN_ID 4442005

#define RSERVER_STATE_CHANGE_ID 4442006

They are displayed at level 4

Gilles.

Hi Gilles,

i have configured the following log levels:

b-sllb2001-09/db_bku-nK2# show run | i loggin

Generating configuration....

logging enable

logging fastpath

logging timestamp

logging trap 7

logging buffered 7

logging monitor 7

in my opinion "logging buffered 7" includes the level 4 infos/errors,

but I have definetly NO infos in the log.

please can you double check this

thx

switch/Admin(config)# rserver 10.10.10.10

switch/Admin(config-rserver-host)# no ins

switch/Admin(config-rserver-host)# do sho logg | i rser

%ACE-5-111008: User 'admin' executed the 'rserver 10.10.10.10' command.

switch/Admin(config-rserver-host)# do sho logg | i out

%ACE-4-442006: Real Server 10.10.10.10 changed state to outOfService

switch/Admin(config-rserver-host)#

This matches the info I gave you previously.

Gilles.

this looks fine, but doesn't work in my config:

1. what ace SW do you use ?

we have system: Version 3.0(0)A1(6.2) [build 3.0(0)A1(6.2) adbuild_23:41:40-2007/10/18_/auto/adbure-rel2/ws/REL_3_0_0_A1_6_2]

2. how is your logging configured ?

we have:

logging enable

logging fastpath

logging timestamp

logging trap 7

logging buffered 7

logging monitor 7

This was fixed in A2.1

Gilles.

Hi Gilles,

I have tested this issue with SW

sllb# show ver

loader: Version 12.2[120]

system: Version A2(1.0a) [build 3.0(0)A2(1.0a) adbuild_04:14:49-2008/04/18_/auto/adbu-rel3/rel_a2_1_throttle/REL_3_0_0_A2_1_0A]

Jun 26 2008 14:54:49 : %ACE-3-251010 Health probe failed for server 10.183.186.120 on port 443, connection refused by server

but I cannot find any log with state changes to operational.

also bad, that the probe-failed is logges with the IP Address and the rserver infos with the rserver name :-(

Here is what I get if I play with probes.

You get the up and down.

You get the real name and the serverfarm name.

Can't be better than that :-)

Gilles.

I can confirm this. My Q&A ACE runs A2.1 and shows this messages in the log as well.

The Prod. ACE runs A2.0 and doesn't show this message.
