Packet Loss

Two networks are connected using fiber optics cable with fastethernet media converters at both ends. We are seeing input and CRC errors on the Cisco switches connected to this converter. Whenever we ping across this link we get packet loss between 3-5%. Can it be the error arising from the fiber that is causing the packet loss?

Yes!

That sounds like a physical problem. Try changing the converters and/or cable.

cheers!

Also, from experience, try HARD-restarting the converters (plugging them off/on).

Loss is very general and not definitive of anything.

CRC errors is what is important in this case. Input errors increment with any error that occured, including CRC, so that counter should be same to CRC counter.

But yeah, this is definitely physical problem.
