Enabling ip cef and netflow caused router crash

After enabling ip cef and netflow on 1760-VPN/K9-A router with IOS v12.3(1a) the router crashed. The router has 2 gre tunnels to the head office. Any ideas why this might have happened would be appreciated?

If the router crashed did it create a crashinfo file in flash? After the router comes back up the output of show version will typically have some information about the reason for the last restart and in the case of a crash will frequently reference an error code. What does the output of show version on your router show?

When a router crashes like that one of the possibilities is always a software bug. 12.3(1a) is pretty old code. It might be helpful to upgrade the code to a more recent version.

There is a crashinfo file in flash but this is dated 20070323. Show version shows the restart due to the problem but I can't see an error code. Maybe an upgrade to the IOS is the answer.

It is possible that there is not a crashinfo file because the router did not create one. Perhaps there was not enough room in flash for another crashinfo file?

At any rate I would agree that an upgrade to IOS would be the logical next step.
