Remote Access VPN , VPDN ...im confused !!!

Hi all,

Im trying to make sense of a configuration in which they are using VPDN with Virtual Templates and VLans (they create the VLAN, assign it to the Virtual Template and then use teh virtual template in the VPDN configuration). so im trying to figure that configuration out (remote users connecting to the router and the local network).

In my searches on the forum and on ciscos side i find many scenarios but nothing similar to what i have i front of me.

Can someone point out the obvious diferences from remote access-VPNs vs VPDNs and any document that might help !!!

Thanks,

George

VPDNs use Layer 2 tunnel technologies (L2F, L2TP, and PPTP) to extend the Layer 2 and higher parts of the network connection from a remote user across an ISP network to a private network

Remote-Access VPN: This extends almost any data, voice, or video application to the remote desktop, emulating the main office desktop. Remote-access VPNs may be deployed using SSL VPN, IPsec or both, depending on deployment requirements.

I will make sure i study the link you have provided me and also soem further reading.

fro your experiences, is there a method that is prefered than the others (from what i read just in your reply, VPN is the way to go...but for others to configure VPDN they must have their reason !!!!

any thoughts on this ?

Thanks,

George
