I am working on an upgrade script to take my PIX 515E from a restricted license 6.35 to an unrestricted 7.24. This is a mission critical piece of equpment so I want to make sure I am doing it right.

Below is what I have from a 30,000 ft level came up with. Does it make sense?

Phase 1 (upgrade to 7.X)

1. Backup configuation to tftp

2. Power down unit

3. Install memory and vpn card from PIX kit

4. Power up and test memory upgrade

5. Upgrade PIX to 7.24 using monitor mode

6. Reboot

7. Test

Phase 2 (upgrade license to unlimited)

TBD

Just add at either step 0 or step 4 the following:

0 - Review the following document(s) and check configuration impact after upgrade (like conduits etc.)

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa70/pix_upgrade/upgrade/guide/pixupgrd.html

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a00807c3627.shtml

Thanks. I have already checked and my config does not have any issues.. So I should be good to go...

I think I left out one other step...

0. Check config for problems (conduit etc)

1. Backup configuation to tftp

2. Power down unit

3. Install memory and vpn card from PIX kit

4. Power up and test memory upgrade

5. Upgrade PIX to 7.24 using monitor mode

6. Reboot

6.1 Upgrade PIX to ADSM 5.24

7. Test

the script process looks good, I would just in case save your running activation key from previous version to keep it in your records, just save the output of show version under code 6.x.
